Plas-y-Coed is located in the Snowdonia National Park on the southern slopes of Moel Elio, in the hamlet of Salem (Betws Garmon), midway between Beddgelert and Caernarfon on the A4085 (Map Reference SH 546 566)

The Snowdon Ranger and Rhyd Ddu paths (two of the main routes to the summit of Snowdon) are only 1.5 and 2 miles respectively from the house.

The newly opened narrow gauge WHR from Caernarfon to Rhyd Ddu passes Plas-y-Coed on the opposite side of the Gwryfai Valley.
